The journey takes time and effort.

The fact is, God could swoop down in an instant and take away the desire to look at porn.  This is also what Satan wants us to expect. He wants us to doubt God and think: "If God loves me why won't He rescue me from this?"  So why doesn't this happen?  Why does the Lord feel so far away?

The reality is that we don't just wake up one day with an addiction.  It is a series of conscious decisions to act badly that lead to habits that eventually become ingrained.  The longer an addiction takes root the more difficult it is to break.

Likewise the journey to recovery is one that takes time and effort.  We live in a culture of dependency and quick fix solutions.   In order for true change to take hold our mentality and environment have to change.  We must examine the decisions, thoughts and temptations that led us down this road.  But willpower and prevention will never be enough.  We need to fix our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2),  He is our hope and salvation,  we need to reestablish communion with the author and perfecter of faith who for the joy set before him endured the cross.  We, likewise, must follow Him, taking up our cross (Luke 9:23) and enduring as He did because He is our hope.

There is no quick fix.  It will take time, years, and daily focus on what is pure, and effort to battle lust.  But the battle is worth it, there is nothing sweeter than walking with God with a clear conscience.
