The process matters

"You have to fall in love with the process of becoming great" - quote from Jeff Capel - Blake Griffin's college coach.
The race we are running in this life doesn't have to be a drag.  The course of sanctification that God sets before us is often difficult and discouraging. But when we look at what Jesus when through should we expect it to be anything other way?
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. - 1 Peter 4:13
The sufferings of this life are but a momentary light affliction (2 Corinthians 4:17), but think of it this way.  The desire of every true believer is to learn and grow to be more like our savior. This life is the only opportunity we will ever have to know him deeper by sharing his suffering.  This is why we consider it an honor to be counted worthy to suffer dishonor for His name (Acts 5:41).

Sanctification is just one part of the sufferings of this life,  but when we should learn to love the process of becoming holy, because He is holy and we want to be like Him.  Day by day we groan within ourselves as we struggle against the flesh.  We know that ultimate sanctification will happen when we are given new bodies at the resurrection,  but until then let's enjoy the training and look forward to the ultimate glory.
