Is Game of Thrones keeping you from living in the Spirit?

Popular entertainment doesn't determine one's beliefs or morality.  You can watch a show without accepting the morals depicted by the show.  So what's the harm?  We are adults who can differentiate between right and wrong, it doesn't affect the way we live our lives.

I've never watched Game of Thrones, I know enough about it to never even get hooked.  But the impression I get from many 20's and 30 somethings is that media consumption is a neutral endeavor that can easily be consumed and forgotten.

Whoa, back up, are you sure it doesn't affect you?  Not at all?

Let me try to change your perspective.  While it may be true that you don't dwell or obsess about the latest tv show, and it may not change your behavior in any way does that mean that it has no effect?

Satan knows that the first thing to go is sensitivity to sin.  And while desensitization may not lead to behavior change it does lead to spiritual apathy.  As believers we aren't surprised when the world celebrates sin, but when sin fails to effect us, when we ignore or tolerate it, then we have subtly lost touch with the Spirit of God and His holiness.

Apathy towards sin is a sign of living in the flesh.

The tricky thing is that we never seem to notice the effects until we stop watching.  When the fog clears and our eyes begin to adjust to the light we then realize what has been happening.

"So are you saying I should never watch tv?"  It would be easy to answer "no, you just need to be careful of what you watch, because Christian liberty" but the truth is, if you are honest, you will need to stop watching a lot of shows that you enjoy, not because believers should never watch tv but because you love God more than tv and those shows are pulling you away from Him.
