Clean House

Cleaning house is the easiest and hardest step to take. It is also vital to mortifying the flesh.

Cleaning house simply means getting rid of all the sources of temptation that you control within your environment.  This includes many things that we feel we need (How far are you willing to go?).  If we leave a dark corner here or a sweep dirt under the rug we are setting ourselves up for a fall.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. - Romans 13:14
Sources of temptation include:
  • Television shows
  • cellphone
  • computer (porn sites, but also twitter, tinder, snapchat, tumbler, pinterest, youtube, etc)
  • tablet
  • magazines (even your wife's)
  • novels
  • women other than your wife (at work, the gym, the beach, etc.)
  • secular friends
Cleaning house also means ridding ourselves of habits and attitudes that enable bad behavior.  We must take an inventory of all the behaviors that strengthen lust.
Enabling behaviors include:
  • boredom
  • wandering eyes
  • social events (spring break, mardi gras, the bar scene, clubs, etc)
  • television addiction
  • alone time
  • work (alone in front of a computer eight hours a day)
  • business travel
  • working out
We must be willing to radically change our lives, even giving up activities we love for a time, in order to obey God's will for us to live in sexual purity.
