The problem for the porn addict is that he has already lost the battle in his mind before he can begin to resist. He is caught in a cycle of defeat and he feels helpless to break free (The Cycle of Defeat)
But it gets worse than that, because the sexual addict has so enslaved himself to his lust that he can create opportunity to sin at any time. (The Lust of the Eyes) When you dwell on pornographic images they are burned into your mind. Temptation crops up everywhere, your eyes undress nearly every woman you meet, even fully clothed ones. Temptation can even be created without any visual stimulation at all! How many times have you closed your eyes only to have a pornographic image or thought pop into your head seemingly out of no where? This is why our Lord said that adultery can happen in the mind (Matthew 5:28).
God has given us our minds to battle and bring our hearts into submission, but this is impossible to do if our minds are set on the flesh (Romans 8:6-7).
When we cry out to God for deliverance (Praying for deliverance) we need to understand what we are asking Him for.
Are you asking God to change your thoughts?
Are you asking God to remove all sin from your heart?
Are you asking God to castrate you?
Are you asking God to take away the guilt so you can go on living in sin?
Do any of these sound like Godly prayers?
Think about this: Have you asked God to take control of your life, that you will follow and obey no matter what is required and no matter what the consequences may be?
That scares you a little doesn't it. Until you honestly pray that prayer and pray it over and over again in humility and broken-heartedness until He answers you, then you are not serious about being free.
