Preparation

To be a good defensive player in basketball or many other sports, you need extensive preparation.  First and foremost you must be in shape.  You need strength training, agility training, endurance training.  You must also practice proper technique and positioning. You need to learn how to anticipate the movements of the enemy.  You must mentally prepare for unforseen adversity.

Once on the court, all the preparation must be put into action.  The player needs to be free from distractions, on their toes, knees bent, ready to aggressively meet the enemy.

We must do the same in our spiritual lives. We must constantly be viewing ourselves in the mirror of scripture, testing our hearts and minds and communing with God to see if there be any unclean way in us. (Psalm 139:23-24) Sanctification is a process of preparation, of learning, growth, and perserverance.  If we aren't actively building and maintaining our defenses then they are crumbling beneath us and we may not even realize it.

Never let down your guard, satan knows your weaknesses and is constantly looking for ways to make you fall.
