But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. -Matthew 6:25-34
"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." - Hebrews 11:6
"Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God;" - 1 Chronicles 22:19
"I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me." - Proverbs 8:17
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." - Matthew 7:7-8
Many years ago my father told me that God honors our commitment to put spiritual things first. He explained that when we have a pressing issue, such as a deadline or upcoming test that conflicts with church or bible study that we need to make God a priority during those times. God can work out all the little things we believe are so pressing. I can attest that there have been many times that my worries have mysteriously dissolved because of God's gracious providence.
Seeking God's kingdom and righteousness first means making Him a priority no matter what the consequences. When it comes to work, relationships, hobbies, eating, entertainment, shopping, etc we tend to spend hours and hours a day pursuing these things without batting an eye, but when it comes to fellowship, prayer, servicing others, and studying the bible we are always too busy.
God honors our commitment to put spiritual things first. Pursue God, make Him a priority, if you want a husband or wife then ask Him, put it in His hands to provide. He knows what we need so why do we spend so much energy pursuing what we think we need? God's choices are always infinitely better than our choices and fantasies.
Elisabeth Elliot's Passion and Purity is a great book about the struggle to obey God, to submit our lives to him, giving up the desires of the heart.
