Don't let psychology hold you back

Many experts in the field of counseling and psychology want to distill every behavior down to subconscious motivation. They want us to believe that past trauma or neglect is responsible for every bad decision we currently make.
See the link about the difference between biblical counseling and psychotherapy. LINK: Psychology and Biblical Counseling
Past experiences clearly play a role in how people live their lives, but they can also become a scape goat to excuse our sin. God gives us healthy, responsible ways to deal with past trauma and guilt - His work on the cross cleanses us completely and the Spirit comforts us. There is also confession, prayer, and encouragement that comes from Christian fellowship.

What doesn't heal is hiding our past shame and letting it determine our identity.
What doesn't heal is attempting to cope with pain through secular wisdom and drugs.
What doesn't heal is believing that you are sick and powerless to overcome your past.
What doesn't heal is methods that exclude the truths in scripture about the condition of our hearts.

God gives us all the tools and power we need to overcome sin, to mortify the flesh and rule our hearts.  True healing comes from freedom from sin through obedience to God's Word.  True healing comes from the love and grace shown us by Jesus and reflected by fellow believers.
